Determine Your Ring Size
Your Finger Size
Visit our showroom and an experienced jewelry consultant will size your finger. Every finger varies slightly, so make sure you know which hand and finger you plan to wear your ring on. Depending on the width of the ring you plan to wear, we have both thin and thick ring sizers for you to try on in quarter-size increments. The width of the ring, and number of rings being worn together, greatly determines what size they will need to be.
Measure Existing Rings
If you are buying for someone else, you may be able to measure one of their existing rings in order to get an idea of their finger size. If you are making a ring with TOSOTO&Esther, our craftsmen can always size it appropriately to their finger once it has been gifted to them.
Size Selection
For those who are prone to swelling or arthritic fingers, be sure to ask our jewelry consultant about your options. Sizing beads, adjustable shanks, and more, will allow your rings to slide over your knuckle without spinning on the slimmest part of your finger.
Size Assurance in Jewelry Design
If TOSOTO&Esther is making a ring for you or someone you love we want to make sure it fits just right. Before we start, make sure you know what finger the ring will be worn on and our jewelers will custom make it specifically in your size. Once the ring has been made, we will adjust the size as needed until you or your loved one decides it is comfortable.
Why Choose An Experienced Jeweler To Measure Dimensions?
Measuring ring size seems to be a routine procedure, and in most cases it does. However, we often see jewelers simply hammering the ring to a larger size or applying excessive pressure to the gemstone or inlay by processing the material beyond its tolerance.
The first step in measuring the size of a ring is to evaluate the distance that the ring must open or close after adding or subtracting a piece of metal from its bottom.
The simplest way to imagine this is to touch the middle finger and thumb with both hands to form a circle. Let your thumb touch and open your fingers at the top. The only way to separate fingers is to bend the circle. Now, imagine a circle covered with exquisite gemstones or gold and silver threads, and it is easy to see that changing the radius of the circle may damage these gemstones or disrupt the exquisite design. In most cases, increasing the size of the ring by one size or smaller is non-invasive.
Experienced jewelers will be able to read materials and inspect rings for metal fatigue or weak areas. Similarly, they will evaluate the gemstones and claws to verify their ability to withstand the pressure applied during the size adjustment process.
Due to the need to cut the ring to add or remove metal for ring size adjustment, it is also necessary to connect the ring through welding or welding. They will use flashlights or lasers, depending on the situation and the jeweler’s ability. Next, the jeweler must correctly insulate the delicate gemstones or sensitive materials in the ring. Few gemstones can withstand the heat required to weld gold, nor can any gemstone withstand the heat required to weld platinum.
Although all of this may sound terrifying, skilled jewelers have the right knowledge and equipment to measure the size of most rings without leaving any traces of completed work. In a few cases, this is impossible, and your jeweler should be able to notify you in advance of any distortion or inconsistency that may occur before you continue with the operation.
At TOSOTO&Esther, we will diagnose your ring so that it can be properly sized by soldering or welding additional precious metals into place as the situation merits. Our experienced team will evaluate each ring sizing on an individual basis to determine the least invasive method to size your ring and ensure its integrity. If additional jewelry repair is needed, we will recommend it at the time that you leave your ring with us. While your ring is in our shop it will undergo proper jewelry cleaning and rhodium plating if required.
